FAQ

Hey, so if you’ve written YA and romance for years as Emily McKay, why use a pseudonym now?

Nope. I’m really not. Not trying to pull a fast one here. I will have new books as Emma Lee Jayne and rebranded books. If a book is a rebranded Emily McKay book, rest assured I’ve added new content to it (mostly stuff to build out the world a little and link together stories that I always wanted to be linked, but that I couldn’t do when I was traditionally published) and I will always let readers know the book’s original title, etc.

Yeah, yeah. Likely story. Aren’t you really just hoping people who already read your Emily McKay romances will buy them again as Emma Lee Jayne?

Good question! For years, I was perfectly content being Emily McKay for my romances and my Young Adult novels.

But every once in a while, the two personas just don’t mix…like when I’m going to a YA book fest or to present in a classroom. If a librarian goes to my Emily McKay website and sees romance novels all over it, it’s a no go!

So when I started getting my rights back on some of my romance novels, I decided a rebranding was in order. And Emma Lee Jayne was born!

You have more romances published as Emily McKay than you do YA. Why do your YA novels get to keep the Emily McKay name?

Though I was nominated for awards for my YA and my romances, I won a Rita for my YA novel The Farm. So Emily McKay will always be a YA writer.

How did you pick the name Emma Lee Jayne?

Because Emily and Emma Lee are basically the same name, right? See how clever I am? <snort>

Okay, sort of that. Plus, Emma and Jayne both remind me of Jane Austen. And Jayne reminds me of Jayne from Firefly. So it’s like the perfect intersection of my nerdoms.
